The agreement with EPA, FDA, and USAID is intended to strengthen national and global efforts.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced the renewal of its Federal Interagency Collaboration to Reduce Food Loss and Waste (FIFLAW) in partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) supporting international efforts. The leaders from USDA, EPA, FDA, and USAID signed a renewed agreement to strengthen coordinated actions, produce educational materials, and engage in community investments and public-private partnerships to reduce food waste.
“By renewing this agreement and adding USAID into the effort, we affirm our shared commitment to coordinated action to reduce food loss and waste and educate Americans on its impacts and importance,” Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said. “Individually and collectively, each of these agencies is working to combat food loss and waste from farm to table.”
The USDA also announced a $4 million investment through its National Institute of Food and Agriculture to fund two projects led by Purdue University and Ohio State University.
